Creating Your Perfect Wedding Instagram Hashtag - Dos and Don'ts
Your wedding has come and gone and you're dying to see images of your big day, but won't get the proofs from your photographer for weeks at the earliest. You know your guests were snapping away on their cameras and phones, but how do you even begin trying find those photos? By searching your wedding hashtag on Instagram, of course!
Creating a custom hashtag is one of the easiest ways to track down images taken by guests at your wedding. But there are some definite Dos and Don'ts to follow that will help make sure your fun candids are not lost in a sea of heavily filtered photos of lattes.
Do - Get creative!
Don’t – Use words that easily misspelled!
Avoid using long words or difficult to spell last names. It would be a shame to miss out on photos of your Uncle Bill breaking it down on the dance floor because he couldn’t decode your hashtag. Keeping it short and sweet is key, as you want your guests to be using it all through the night!
Do – Capitalize the first letter of each word!
Capitalizing the important words in your hashtag, i.e. #JonesPartyofTwo, will give your hashtag readability and your guests a better chance of not misspelling it. And it also looks oh-so-lovely on your custom Marrygrams sign!
Don’t – Forget to check availability!
Type in your desired wedding hashtag in the search bar on Instagram to see if anybody else has been using the same one. If #SmithWedding has already been utilized by hundreds of brides, you’re probably going to want to avoid it. You don’t want to have to sift through photos of a thousand strangers just to find your own.
